Manners in the Workplace

Being a profesional, you have to pay attention to etiquettes in your workplace. There is something you as professionals have to possess, namely good manners. Good manners are shown from several aspects, such as your physical appearance, attitudes, and personality.
It is important to dress in a manner consistent with company culture and make sure your clothes are always clean. Besides, it is good for you to keep yourself clean. Taking shower or bathing every day is a must. It can relax your mind, lighten a little bit of your burden, make you feel fresh and be ready for your work. Brushing your teeth every morning after breakfast is important to keep your breath fresh.
Besides, you also have to be aware of your gesture. You have to stand up straight and sit with legs together to avoid displays. your gesture will influence other's impression on you. A wrong gesture will make a negative impression.
Then, you need to be careful with your attitude. Treat a cubicle as if it has a dooe and a ceiling. Speak calmly and with an even cadence, in person and on the telephone. Personal telephone conversations should be kept to a minimum if you inhabit a cubicle. No one wants to hear your arguments with your spouse. Confidential business conversations should be also be kept to a minimum if you're in a cubicle for similar reasons. You do not want to prematurely spill the beans on some important deal. you also have to avoid aggressive behavior such as learning into people, pointing at others, interrupting others, crowding others, using heavy perfume or cologne and bringing odorous food into the office. Snorting, spitting, or picking at any part of yourself is considered impolite.
Moreover, if you use an elevator, face forward in the elevator. if you are getting off near the top of the building, move to the rear of the elevator. If you're getting off on a lower floor, stand close to the front. Say "Hello" or "Good morning" to those you encounter in the morning nad "Good night" to those you encounter as you leave.
It can be concluded that being a professional needs a good package consisting of physical appearance, attitude, and personality. This is the announcement for class 2 all departments. There will be some tasks here that will exist on August 21st. Please, open this blog on that day. Your time is 2 days to finish them.

Thank you.

3.2 Expressing 'Wish'

Wish expresses a desire that is contrary to the fact. So, beside Conditional If, you can also use Wish.

Look at this condition.

Ann: Tom, do you know what I wish? I wish our vacation started today.

Tom: I wish we never had to go back to school.

If we see from the examle above, the form of wish usually folowed by Past Verb (started, had).

Now, try this exercise and do like the example given.

E.g.: I don't have much money. I wish I had a lot of money.

Hai students,

Today's material is about Tag Questions. Do you know it? Yes, that's right. It is a mini question at the end of a sentence, such as: isn't it?, is it?, aren't they?, etc.

All right students, there are some rules in making Tag Questions, are as follows:

  1. If the sentence is positive, the tag should be in negative.
  2. If the sentence is negative, the tag should be in positive.
  3. If the sentence is imperative, the tag is 'will you?'.
  4. If the tag is inviting (Let's . . .) the tag is 'shall we?'.
  5. You cannot make tag if the sentence is interrogative sentence.
  6. The sound is important in tag. If the sound is goes down, it means to make it sure. But, if the sound goes up, it means that it needs the answer.

Here are the examples:

  • It is nice weather, isn't it?
  • It's not hot today, is it?
  • Close the door, will you?

  • The YNQ can be made with Have/Has
  • The YNQ can be made with Can/Will/May/Shall/Must

Look at the examples below:

  • 'Do you live in London?' 'Yes, I do./No, I don't.'
  • 'Does she go to school by bus?' 'Yes, she does./No, she doesn't.'

In our daily communication, sometimes we use fully complete of Yes-No answer, and sometimes not. So, you must understand the situation and the communication will going as well.

All right students, that's all about YNQ.

Thanks.

Adjectives

In grammar, an adjective is a word whose main syntactic role is to modify a noun or pronoun, giving more information about the noun or pronoun's referent. Some examples can be seen in the box to the right. Collectively, adjectives form one of the traditional English eight parts of speech, though linguists today distinguish adjectives from words such as determiners that also used to be considered adjectives.

Not all languages have adjectives, but most, including English, do. (English adjectives include big, old, and tired, among many others.) Those that do not, typically use words of another part of speech, often verbs, to serve the same semantic function; for example, such a language might have a verb that means "to be big", and would use a construction analogous to "big-being house" to express what English expresses as "big house". Even in languages that do have adjectives, one language's adjective might not be another's; for example, while English uses "to be hungry" (hungry being an adjective), French uses "avoir faim" (literally "to have hunger"), and where Hebrew uses the adjective "זקוק" (zaqūq, roughly "in need of"), English uses the verb "to need".
In most languages with adjectives, they form an open class of words; that is, it is relatively common for new adjectives to be formed via such processes as derivation.

Adjectives showing colors: red, yellow, blue, green, orange, purple, black, white, dark blue, light green.

Adjective showing quality: good, bad, qualified.

Adjective showing size: big, small, pretty big, huge, large, long, short.

Adjective of shape: circle, triangle, rectangle.

Adjective of material: wooden, golden, plastic, iron.

Adjective of origin: American, Germany, Chinese.

Adjective showing physical appearance: nice, beautiful, ugly.

Adjective showing non-physical appearance: smart, humorous, fool.

Expressing Thanks (class X)

Reading
Gratitude, thankfulness, or appreciation is a positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive. The experience of gratitude has historically been a focus of several world religions, and has been considered extensively by moral philosophers such as Adam Smith. The systematic study of gratitude within psychology only began around the year 2000, possibly because psychology has traditionally been focused more on understanding distress rather than understanding positive emotions. However, with the advent of the positive psychology movement, gratitude has become a mainstream focus of psychological research. The study of gratitude within psychology has focused on the understanding of the short term experience of the emotion of gratitude (state gratitude), individual differences in how frequently people feel gratitude (trait gratitude), and the relationship between these two aspects. 1. Greeting

1.1 Understanding basic expressions in social interaction for life.

In this competency, there are some materials that included in it, are:

  • Greetings and leave takings.
  • Introducing yourself and others.
  • Expressing thank.
  • Apologizing/Expressing sorry.
  • Grammar: Personal Pronoun
  • Grammar: Simple Present Tense

Greeting and Leave Taking

Read the text about greeting below.

How are you?

'Hello', 'How are you?', 'Good morning', 'Have you eaten yet?', 'Where are you going?'. These are greeting which people use in different languages when they meet each other. But what is greeting?

A greeting is a way of being friendly to someone. It is a way of being polite. it is also a way of starting a conversation. in many languages a question is used as a greeting: 'Where are you going?', 'How is everything?'. But questions like these are not real questions. They do not require a full answer or even a true one. In English, for example, the most common greeting is a question about person's health: 'How are you?'. But we do not expect the person to tell us about their health when they repley. we do not expect them to talk about their headache or their backache, if they have one. People reply to these questions with a fixed expression such as 'Just walking around' is sufficient. It is not necessary to describe where you are actually going.

In most languages, a greeting is usually followed by small talk. Small talk means the little things we talk about at the start of a conversation. In English-speaking countries people often make small talk about the weather; 'Nice day, isn't it?', 'Terrible weather, isn't it?'. But there is something special about small talk. It must be about something which both people have the same opinion about. The purpose of small talk is to let both people agree on something. This makes meeting people easier and more comfortable. People usually agree about the weather, so it is a safe topic for small talk. But people often disagree about religion or politics so these are not suitable topic for small talk in English. The topic for small talk also depend on where the conversation is taking place. At football games, people make small talk; 'Great game, isn't it?'. At the bus stop, people may comment about the transportation system; 'The buses are very slow these days, aren't they?'

Greeting and small talk are an important part of conversation in any language. The way people greet each other and the things they talk about, however, may be different from one language to another. This shows that there is much more to be aware of when we learn a language than just the vocabulary and the grammar of the language. We also have to learn the social behaviour of the people who speak it.

Answer some questions about:

  1. Is it true that people use greeting when they say goodbye to each other?
  2. Is it true that learners of english should only learn grammar and vocabulary?
  3. Is it true that some languages do not have greetings?
  4. Is it true that small talk means talk of great importance to speakers in the conversation?
  5. Is it true that the purpose of of greeting is the same in all languages?
